Quintana Roo Boosts Artisans with Digital Platform and Funding

Artisans in Quintana Roo showcasing traditional crafts with government support

Chetumal — As part of the achievements reached in 2025, the Government of Quintana Roo, through the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDE), promoted the strengthening and modernization of artisanal commercialization by delivering 90 economic and in-kind supports from the Artisanal Diversification and Marketing Program. This directly benefited 588 artisans organized in social groups and a cooperative across various municipalities in the state.

This strategy is part of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, promoted by Governor Mara Lezama, by fostering a more just, inclusive, and identity-driven economy. It recognizes crafts as an engine for economic development, social cohesion, and the preservation of the state’s cultural heritage.

During the year, 41 economic supports were granted in a first and second phase, aimed at 22 social groups and a cooperative, for the physical improvement of commercial spaces. This included remodeling service areas, creating exhibition and sales zones, as well as commercial equipment for workshops dedicated to artisanal production in textiles, wood, plant fibers, marine materials, and other traditional techniques.

The Secretary of Economic Development, Paul Carrillo, highlighted that, as part of this transformative vision, the launch of the digital platform “Hecho en Quintana Roo” (Made in Quintana Roo) was carried out. This involved the delivery of 49 electronic tablets that allow artisans to manage their online stores, eliminate unfair intermediaries, strengthen their entrepreneurial capacities, and make their work visible as an essential part of the state’s living heritage.

With a total investment of 3,070,287 pesos, the program had a presence in multiple localities of municipalities such as Felipe Carrillo Puerto, José María Morelos, Tulum, Bacalar, Cozumel, Othón P. Blanco, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, among others. It consolidated 90 supports delivered and strengthened the commercial infrastructure, competitiveness, and economic and cultural sustainability of Quintana Roo’s artisanal communities.
