Quintana Roo Revises Visitor Fee Collection with Tourism Sector

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama discussing tourism fee collection with sector representatives

Government Reaffirms Commitment to Dialogue

The Government of the State of Quintana Roo reaffirms its commitment to permanent and constructive dialogue with the hotel and tourism sector, by reformulating the collection scheme for Visitax, an existing fee since 2021, without generating a burden on the sector and guaranteeing at all times the competitiveness of the destination, legal certainty, and a positive experience for those visiting the Mexican Caribbean.

Therefore, the fee will not be withheld during accommodation, however its application remains firm and has the support of the sector so that these resources are applied for the benefit and well-being of Quintana Roo residents.

Investment in Tourism Infrastructure

The proposal remains firm that 100% of the resources derived from Visitax will be strategically invested in improving tourism infrastructure, the competitiveness of destinations, and the protection of the state’s natural assets, key elements to maintain Quintana Roo’s leadership as one of the most important tourist destinations in the world.

The legislative initiative approved by the State Congress aims to establish a legal framework that provides margin for adaptation, technical analysis, and evaluation of new collection methods for the fee that can be supported by the different actors in the tourism sector, prioritizing operationally viable schemes aligned with international best practices.

Dialogue and Consensus for Implementation

The State Government reaffirms that any adjustment or implementation of the fee will be carried out with dialogue and consensus, always prioritizing competitiveness, certainty for investment, and shared prosperity, for the benefit of Quintana Roo residents, as well as the tourism industry that generates employment and development for the entity.

Finally, the State Government recognizes the willingness of the hotel sector to continue supporting the transition towards a fairer, more sustainable, and responsible tourism development model, which allows continuing to raise the competitiveness and global positioning of Quintana Roo’s tourist destinations.
