Cancun, Quintana Roo — State prosecutors and National Guard agents raided five properties simultaneously in Cancun on Tuesday as part of an investigation into human trafficking for forced prostitution, authorities said.
The operation stemmed from the discovery of seven women believed to be victims of human trafficking, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) said in a statement. A judge issued five search warrants, which were executed at the same time across the municipality.
Investigators from the FGE’s specialized anti-trafficking unit and National Guard agents participated in the raids.
At a property on Calle 46 in Supermanzana 213, agents seized personal documents in a woman’s name, a computer, a micro SD card, electric massage devices, a bank terminal, and various sex toys.
At a home on Calle Géminis in Supermanzana 41, investigators seized two laptop computers, a man’s driver’s license, a cellphone, and personal documents in a woman’s name.
Another raid targeted a home on Calle Isla Fuji in the Paraiso Cancun condominium complex in Supermanzana 317. Agents found no evidence directly linked to the crime but secured the property because it is owned by Eduardo “N,” who has been formally charged in the same trafficking case.
Two additional properties were searched: one on Avenida Nichupté in the Torres del Bosque II subdivision in Supermanzana 51, and another on Privada Pomona in Supermanzana 244.
After the searches, authorities placed seizure seals on the first three properties, which remain under the control of the state prosecutor’s office. All seized evidence has been turned over to the public prosecutor’s office for inclusion in the investigation file.
