Puerto Morelos Hosts First International Painting Symposium

Artists painting at the First International Painting Symposium in Puerto Morelos

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The First International Painting Symposium of Puerto Morelos will take place from June 17 to 28, bringing together 11 artists from around the world to create works inspired by the region’s natural, cultural, and social wealth.

During a press conference at a beach club in Playa del Carmen, Daniela Jáuregui, cultural promoter and curator of the event, said the activities will be held at the Museum and Cultural Center of Puerto Morelos, where expectations are high for the artistic project.

Participating artists come from France, Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey, China, Germany, Croatia, and Spain. They will spend several days creating pieces that reflect the identity of the Mexican Caribbean and its environment.

“It is a gathering where 11 international artists from France, Hungary, Slovakia, Turkey, China, Germany, Croatia, and Spain will work and create representative works inspired by the region,” Jáuregui said.

The symposium will also include public activities such as workshops, conferences, presentations, and talks, with participation from artists across Quintana Roo and the artistic community of Playa del Carmen.

Jáuregui noted that one of the main goals is to generate a collection of contemporary art inspired by the region, which will be donated to the Museum of Puerto Morelos to strengthen its cultural holdings and foster new spaces for dialogue between artists and citizens.

“We need to create meeting spaces; museums generate connections,” she said, emphasizing the importance of bringing art closer to the community and promoting international cultural exchange.

The symposium aims to become a permanent platform for artistic creation and the strengthening of cultural ties in Quintana Roo, positioning Puerto Morelos as a reference point for contemporary art in the Mexican Caribbean.
