Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A public transport vehicle crashed into a light pole on Friday afternoon in the Villas del Sol area after the driver lost control while traveling on Periférico Avenue, near the intersection with Gansos Avenue.
According to preliminary reports, the driver became distracted during a verbal exchange with a passenger, causing the vehicle to veer onto the sidewalk. The unit traveled uncontrolled for several meters, knocked down two palm trees, and finally came to a stop after colliding with the metallic structure.
Bystanders in the area requested assistance after observing the impact. Paramedics treated two passengers at the scene for injuries resulting from the vehicle's sudden movement. No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
Volunteers and motorists provided temporary assistance with traffic flagging to prevent additional incidents while emergency teams provided medical attention and maintained cautious traffic flow. Traffic officers collected information and inspected the condition of the vehicle to officially determine the sequence of the accident.
A tow truck removed the unit to completely clear the roadway.
