Tulum, Mexico — A group of local residents partially blocked the northern exit of Federal Highway 307, connecting Tulum and Playa del Carmen, this afternoon to protest restricted access to beaches in the city’s hotel zone. The demonstration caused significant traffic delays as protesters obstructed the lane heading toward Playa del Carmen, disrupting motorists attempting to leave the area.

Signs and Demands Highlighted

Protesters carried signs with messages such as "Denying access to the sea is a crime against tourism development," "Free access to the beaches," and "No to illegal tolls at Jaguar Park." The action marks the third such demonstration organized by residents advocating for unrestricted beach entry and the removal of entrance fees at El Jaguar Park, where they allege harassment by National Guard personnel.

Current Restrictions and Protesters' Demands

At present, free entry to El Jaguar Park is limited to residents who can provide a voter ID with a Tulum address, as well as foreigners holding a residence permit. Protesters are calling for expanded access, insisting that temporary workers at the park should also be granted entry without charge.

Road Cleared After Two Hours

The blockade lasted approximately two hours before protesters dispersed, though they warned of further demonstrations in the coming days if federal authorities fail to address their demands.
