Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A private contractor accidentally struck and fractured a 30-inch drinking water line in Playa del Carmen on Monday, causing leaks and disrupting water service in parts of the city.
The local water utility Aguakan said the incident happened around 1 p.m. while workers from NKEN Soluciones, a company installing video surveillance cameras for the C4 command and control center, were operating near the municipal detention center (Cereso).
NKEN Soluciones acknowledged the damage and is in contact with Aguakan, the utility said.
Aguakan said specialized crews have begun repair work and will replace the damaged section of the pipeline. The utility estimated the work will take about 10 hours and asked residents to expect temporary service interruptions in several areas.
