Punta Allen Cut Off by Damaged Access Road in Tulum

Severely damaged access road to Punta Allen community in Tulum region

Tulum, Mexico — Residents of the Punta Allen community, officially known as Javier Rojo Gómez, have reported that the access road to their locality is currently in critical condition, complicating mobility and the supply of basic services.

According to residents, the approximately 40-kilometer road section shows severe damage, primarily potholes and impassable areas, a situation that worsened after recent rains despite rehabilitation work carried out by authorities during 2025.

They indicated that when the road is in regular condition, the journey from the Xian Gán arch to the community typically takes between three and four hours; however, due to the current deterioration, travel time has increased to six hours, directly affecting residents’ daily lives.

Among the main problems, they noted the suspension of supplier access, such as distributors of bottled water in large containers and LP gas, who have stopped coming to the community due to vehicle breakdowns suffered while traveling on the damaged road.

This situation has caused shortages and higher costs for families.

Regarding mobility, residents stated that, given the risk posed by land travel, many opt to travel by boat to Tulum, even though the cost is higher. They detailed that the maritime journey takes approximately two hours, which is safer and, in some cases, more efficient than using the land route.

Faced with this situation, residents have called on the relevant authorities to carry out repair work urgently to restore land access and ensure the supply of services, as well as the safety and connectivity of the community.
