Police officers and soldiers detain a young man on a street in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Municipal police officers and soldiers arrested a 19-year-old man from Yucatán on drug charges during a joint patrol in the city’s downtown area, authorities said Tuesday.

The suspect, identified as Jesús David N., was taken into custody in the Centro neighborhood after officers observed suspicious behavior, according to the Public Security Department.

During a search conducted under standard protocols, police found a backpack containing several packages of green, dry plant material resembling marijuana, white powder consistent with cocaine, and multiple pills that appeared to be ecstasy. Officers also seized an undisclosed amount of cash and a cell phone from the suspect.

Jesús David N. and all evidence were turned over to the State Prosecutor’s Office, which will open an investigation and determine his legal status in the coming hours.
