Playa del Carmen, Mexico — The Directorate of Sexual Diversity of Playa del Carmen, in collaboration with municipal authorities and LGBTTTIQA+ advocacy groups, presented the official agenda for Pride Month, which will take place throughout June. The schedule includes over a dozen cultural, artistic, sports, and awareness-raising activities aimed at promoting visibility, respect, and inclusion in the municipality.

A Commitment to Inclusivity

Representing the mayor, the city’s chief administrative officer, Guillermo Brahms González, led the press conference, declaring, “Playa del Carmen is an inclusive, free destination committed to equality.” He also hinted at an upcoming “international surprise” to be held at Plaza 28 de Julio as part of the commemorative events.

Accompanied by officials and community organizations, Brahms emphasized that this year’s activities are expected to draw more than 23,000 participants, solidifying Playa del Carmen’s reputation as a national leader in Pride celebrations.

Celebrating Diversity and Advocacy

Deyanira Martínez, Secretary of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, underscored the significance of the agenda, stating, “This initiative not only celebrates diversity but also reaffirms the struggle of generations to be seen, respected, and valued.”

Gabriel Pérez Álvarez, Director of Sexual Diversity, outlined the month-long schedule, which includes:

  • June 1: Crossing with Pride – Pedestrian crosswalk painting at City Hall.
  • June 2: Walls with Pride – Mural creation at Plaza 28 de Julio.
  • June 3: Activate Your Pride – Zumba and pedestrian walk in Puerto Aventuras.
  • June 6: Gender Rights Workshop at Club Aventuras.
  • June 9: Colors of Pride – Painting workshop at Chess Waffles, Puerto Aventuras.
  • June 15: Breaking Barriers Forum at the Oval Hall.
  • June 21: Zumba Masterclass at the Plaza 28 de Julio amphitheater.
  • June 25: Screening of Kenia Cuevas’ Documentary at the Jaime Torres Bodet Library.
  • June 27: My Peace Fashion Show featuring trans designers and models, including Alanna Cordero, Pisces Carrizales, and Taylor Ortiz.
  • June 28: Pride March and Nocturnal Run for LGBTTTIQA+ Memories at the Mario Villanueva Stadium.

Strengthening Inclusive Tourism

Representing the Secretary of Tourism, Estefanía Hernández, official Igor Sánchez highlighted the event’s role in positioning Playa del Carmen as a leading destination for inclusive and safe LGBTTTIQA+ tourism, further bolstering the region’s “pink tourism” sector.

The presentation also acknowledged the collaborative efforts of advocacy groups such as Diverso Playa del Carmen, as well as community representatives Juan Pablo Pailles Vázquez of the Puerto Aventuras Collective and Juan Zavala Hernández, president of Colectivo Diverso PDC. Both praised the municipal government’s support, stating, “The Pride Month calendar has become a spectacular event that enriches the entire Playa del Carmen community.”
