Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Teenage speed skater Vivian Michelle Morfin Castaneda returned home to Playa del Carmen with international experience under her belt after competing at the World Speed Skating Championships in Asuncion, Paraguay.

Morfin Castaneda, 17, raced in the junior category against athletes from around the world, recording her best result in the one-lap event, where she finished seventh in 33.794 seconds.

She also placed 11th in the 100-meter sprint in 11.437 seconds, 12th in the 1,000-meter sprint in 1:29.613 and 14th in the 200-meter dual time trial in 20.014 seconds.

Building experience on the international stage

Beyond the results, the championships offered a learning opportunity for the Quintana Roo skater, who is still developing her career at the international level.

Morfin Castaneda already had experience at that level, having competed at the 2024 World Championships in Italy, the Pan American Under-23 Championship in Colombia and a European tour through Italy earlier this year.

Next stop: Guadalajara

The skater is back in Playa del Carmen following the world championships and is expected to travel to Guadalajara, Jalisco, in about two weeks to continue training at a camp.

Morfin Castaneda heads into that camp after a standout performance at the 2026 CONADE National Olympiad, where she won five gold medals.
