State Adult Education Institute to Open Branch in Villas del Sol

IEEJA Quintana Roo officials announce a new education branch serving Villas del Sol in Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Strong demand for education in Villas del Sol has led the State Institute for the Education of Youth and Adults (IEEJA) to open a branch in the western part of the city, bringing training and academic catch-up programs closer to both minors and adults, the agency’s Zone 08 coordinator said.

Fiby Kantún said the branch will operate in coordination with the municipal DIF, the city’s family development agency, whose offices will be used to serve the first group of students. Enrollment is already open.

Kantún said IEEJA identified the need in Villas del Sol and has coordinated with several other agencies, including the Quintana Roo Women’s Institute and foundations operating in the subdivision, the largest in the municipality.

Program for Minors Aged 10 to 17

Officials will launch the 10/17 program in cooperation with the municipal DIF, meaning minors between the ages of 10 and 17 will be the first to receive attention at the new site.

Kantún said 36 people who have already registered will begin receiving services from IEEJA staff in the coming days.

Annual Target of 800 Students

The coordinator said the agency has the capacity to serve 800 people a year, with roughly 150 constantly in the process of either completing a stage of study or starting a new one.

She said the need for educational services in Playa del Carmen is permanent and has not declined as a result of migration in and out of the city, with residents continuing to seek help finishing primary and secondary school.
