Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Women’s Institute of Playa del Carmen has opened nominations for the Elvia Carrillo Puerto Award, an annual recognition of outstanding women in the community.
Institute director Idania Gamboa Medina said the call is open to a broad range of candidates, including girls as young as seven. Nominations close Oct. 25, and the award will be presented Nov. 25 during a City Council session held to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
Women may enter themselves or be nominated by other individuals or organizations. The full guidelines are posted on the institute’s social media accounts, and staff at its offices will assist applicants who need help submitting projects or paperwork.
The institute’s board will invite jury members from municipal and academic institutions as well as prominent local women to select the honorees.
