Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A traditional Good Friday procession in Playa del Carmen is expected to draw more than 2,000 participants and visitors as part of Holy Week commemorations organized by the Our Lady of Carmen parish.

Parish priest Enrique Flores announced that the main Stations of the Cross procession will begin at 1 p.m. on Good Friday from Lázaro Cárdenas Plaza, proceeding along 30th Avenue to the Fifth Avenue Chapel. The reenactment, which young participants have been preparing for months, is scheduled to last approximately two hours, concluding around 3 p.m., the traditional hour of Christ’s death.

“We want to stage the Stations of the Cross in a visible and realistic way; it’s quite a large event,” Flores said.

Earlier on Good Friday morning, a separate procession for children, teenagers, and young adults will travel between the Fifth Avenue Chapel and the main parish church.

Following the procession, the parish will hold the Good Friday liturgy. A Holy Saturday celebration with songs and a representation of the redemption story is planned for Saturday night, with regular Easter Sunday Masses concluding the observances.

The events attract not only the local community but also national and international visitors, including people from the United States, Spain, and other Mexican states, bolstering religious tourism in the resort city.
