Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The municipal government of Playa del Carmen inaugurated the “Hecho en Playa” market at Leona Vicario Park, a permanent weekend venue aimed at strengthening the local economy by supporting artisans, entrepreneurs, and small producers.

Estefanía Hernández, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, represented Mayor Estefanía Mercado at the opening. She stated that the project is part of a public policy to back those who sustain the economy from the ground up. “This project stems from collaborative work with you. It’s not just a sales point; it’s a platform to grow, so your products can reach further, even to national and international markets,” Hernández said.

She added that the market is designed to reduce economic gaps and open direct sales channels, cutting out intermediaries and boosting family incomes in Playa del Carmen. The program includes institutional support for product development, sales strategies, and connections with other economic sectors like tourism, aiming to place local brands in hotels, boutiques, and new commercial showcases.

Hernández emphasized the importance of local talent, calling it a key driver for municipal development. “Without you, Playa del Carmen wouldn’t be this land of opportunities. Here there is talent, effort, and dreams that deserve to grow,” she expressed.

Daniel Bellamy, Director of Labor and Employment Promotion, reiterated the municipal government’s open-door policy to support entrepreneurs at all stages, from initial ideas to business consolidation, including access to the “Hecho en Playa” distinction.

The market brings together dozens of exhibitors and is projected as a new social and economic meeting point that promotes local consumption, strengthens community ties, and drives a more inclusive development model for Playa del Carmen. Attendees at the inauguration included Eduardo Asencio, honorary president of the municipal DIF; local legislator Lili Mis; and Laura Acosta, in charge of the “Hecho en Playa” program.
