Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — This resort city is set to host the National Inter-Associations Speed Skating Championship from March 25-29, with organizers expecting more than 1,200 competitors from 23 states across Mexico.

The event, which will serve as a qualifying competition for the 2026 National Sports Games (Conade) and as a national selection event for international tournaments including the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo and the World Speed Skating Championships, represents a major sporting showcase for the region.

State and municipal authorities have coordinated preparations through the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ) and the Playa del Carmen Sports Institute. CODEQ head Jacobo Arzate Hop and municipal sports director Alberto López recently inspected the skating track at the Playa del Carmen Sports Complex on Juarez Avenue at 115th Street, evaluating the facility and surrounding areas to optimize access and spectator seating.

The municipal government has deployed additional resources through departments including Events, Public Services, and General Services to ensure adequate facilities for athletes, coaches, and attendees.

Competition begins Wednesday at 8 a.m. at the sports complex’s skating rink. The championship highlights Playa del Carmen’s growing reputation as a host for major sporting events and reflects ongoing efforts to position Quintana Roo as a destination capable of accommodating large-scale competitions.
