Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Playa del Carmen expects to earn a satisfactory rating from the agencies that assess a municipality’s ability to meet its financial obligations, municipal Treasurer Guillermo Brahms said, pointing to own-source revenues that account for more than 85 percent of the city’s income.
Brahms said the city’s finances have steadied after a rocky stretch earlier this year, when local taxpayers answered the municipal government’s call. He said the discount programs the city offered benefited both residents and the administration.
Despite the earlier financial strain, the treasurer said taxpayers stood by the municipal government and took advantage of the discounts on offer.
Brahms said Playa del Carmen is projected to collect more than the 4.5 billion pesos budgeted for this year, and that 2027 should bring a significant increase.
“We are closing the year well. Hotel occupancy is going to rise starting in November. We have been above the calculated 4.5 billion; we will close higher, and that should be the benchmark for projecting with more vision for next year,” he said.
