Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — In a high-level institutional meeting, Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado and Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón agreed to consolidate a shared agenda focused on public security, tourism promotion, and social development. The meeting reaffirmed both municipalities' commitment to regional well-being and strategies to improve citizens' quality of life while positioning the Mexican Caribbean as a model of sustainable development, organized tourism, and social peace.
A Partnership for Regional Prosperity
"Tulum is a sister municipality that was once part of Playa del Carmen. Today, it shines as one of the most important destinations in the Caribbean, and we are convinced that by working together, we can multiply the benefits for our communities," stated Mayor Estefanía Mercado.
Key discussion points included security coordination, joint strategies to boost national and international tourism, and concrete actions for inclusion programs, social services, and community development.
Collaborative Governance for a Shared Future
Through this alliance, Playa del Carmen and Tulum reinforce their leadership in southern Quintana Roo, embracing a collaborative governance model that addresses current demands and a shared vision for the future.
Mayor Mercado emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to strengthen regional prosperity, reiterating her administration's commitment to territorial transformation with a people-centered approach.
"When there is collaboration, there is transformation. And when two destinations like Playa del Carmen and Tulum join forces, all of Quintana Roo benefits," she concluded.
