Tulum, Quintana Roo — In a ceremony marked by unity and commitment, the newly elected leadership committee of the "Tiburones del Caribe" Taxi Union was sworn in on Friday, ushering in a fresh chapter for the organization. Manuel Enrique Solís Alcocer assumed the role of Secretary General for the 2025–2027 term, pledging to restore user confidence and strengthen ties with government authorities.

A Democratic Transition

Solís Alcocer emphasized that his election followed a transparent and democratic process held on May 4. Addressing union members, he acknowledged the daily challenges faced by taxi operators and vowed to "reclaim the pride of being a taxi driver" while rebuilding trust with passengers.

"This union represents over 3,000 families who contribute significantly to the local economy through honest, responsible, and solidarity-driven work," Solís Alcocer stated. He revealed that a comprehensive work plan had already been drafted based on direct consultations with union members.

The new leader stressed that transparency would be a cornerstone of his administration. "Just as we entered with our heads held high, we must leave the same way—proud of having served and fulfilled our duties," he declared.

Government Support and Collaboration

Solís Alcocer expressed his support for Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama, praising her social commitment and transparent leadership. He also thanked Tulum Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo, whom he described as "a friend of taxi drivers."

Mayor Castañón, in turn, underscored the importance of coordination between taxi operators and municipal authorities. He noted that Tulum has evolved from a small town into a city requiring long-term planning, order, and transparency.

"Tourism is our livelihood, and we must protect it. By taking care of tourists, we ensure economic growth and more jobs for everyone," Castañón said. He pledged full support to the new union leadership in improving urban mobility, security, and order, in collaboration with state agencies.

"You are not alone. We will work hand in hand to ensure this union remains a key pillar of Tulum’s development," the mayor added.

Attendees and Closing Remarks

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by state officials and union representatives, including:

  • Francisco Carrillo, Undersecretary of Social and Interinstitutional Affairs for the northern zone, representing Governor Mara Lezama.
  • Rubén Carrillo Buenfil, Deputy of Quintana Roo’s 18th Legislature.
  • Dr. Juvenal Reyes Marrufo, Secretary General of the Autonomous Federation of Workers and Employees of Quintana Roo (CATEM).
  • Cruz Ricardo Gutiérrez, State Transportation Secretary of the CROC, representing Martín de la Cruz Gómez.

The event concluded with a call for unity, coordinated efforts, and the transformation of unionism in Tulum.
