Nascar Race to Return to Quintana Roo in 2027 After Successful Tulum Debut

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Nascar will return to Quintana Roo in 2027 for a second edition, following the success of the first race held in Tulum this year, organizers announced.

Isaac Velázquez Méndez, co-producer of the event, said the goal is to exceed the 30,000 attendees recorded in the inaugural edition. The race is not tied to the Tulum International Airport venue, but organizers hope to repeat the location. If not, they are open to other private spaces.

Velázquez highlighted three key achievements from the first edition: it proved that a car race could be held in Quintana Roo, it was a points-paying event rather than an exhibition, and it featured a 12 million peso ($600,000) oval track built inside an airport for the first time in Mexico.

“All the teams came, with more than 55 drivers across the Trucks, Challenge, and Nascar Mexico Series categories, and over 21,500 attendees over the event days,” he said.

The race also included an air show by the Mexican armed forces, a first for a motorsport event in the country.

“We are already working on the second edition for summer 2027, which is a low season in Tulum, to help diversify tourism and build a fan base for this type of event,” Velázquez added.

Organizers plan to involve hotels and service providers to offer preferential rates for participants. A business summit and a music festival featuring non-electronic genres are also in the works, along with another air show similar to the Acapulco Air Show.

If Nascar becomes an annual event, Velázquez said attendance could reach over 50,000 once partnerships with agencies, hotels, and service providers are established.
