Tulum, Quintana Roo — A moving truck carrying furniture veered off the road and knocked down a power pole on Federal Highway 307 between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, near the entrance to the Dos Ojos cenote, authorities reported.
According to initial reports, the truck, with license plates from Tabasco state (VT-2614-B), was traveling from Playa del Carmen toward Tulum, with a final destination of Mérida, after delivering furniture.
The driver stated that a tractor-trailer passing alongside his vehicle on the same road caused a loss of stability. He indicated the truck had unstable handling conditions, which led to a loss of control, the vehicle leaving the asphalt, and the collision with the electrical infrastructure.
The crash toppled the CFE (Federal Electricity Commission) power pole, causing visible damage in the area. However, no injuries were reported; both the driver and his passenger were unharmed, so medical services were not required.
Civil protection personnel responded to the scene to inspect for additional risks, and National Guard officers arrived to document the incident and begin procedures to determine liability.
The accident highlighted the risks associated with the mechanical condition of cargo vehicles and their interaction with heavy traffic on this busy federal highway.
