Cancún, Mexico — A mototaxi driver lost his life in a traffic accident on Cancún’s Arco Vial near the Vista Real subdivision. Another individual traveling with the driver sustained severe injuries.

Emergency services received a distress call via the 911 emergency line reporting a serious accident involving a public-service mototaxi on the roadway. Units from the Cancún Transit Directorate responded promptly, followed by an ambulance from the private medical rescue company Rescate Inmediato Medico (RIM).

At the scene, located in Supermanzana 252 near the intersection with Avenida Chac Mool, authorities found a blue mototaxi belonging to the Islacun union with significant damage. Two unconscious men lay beside the vehicle. Paramedics confirmed one of them, believed to be the driver, had no vital signs. The other, identified as a passenger, was rushed to the General Hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate the accident occurred when a car merging onto the Arco Vial allegedly cut off the mototaxi, forcing the driver to swerve to avoid a collision. Due to excessive speed and reckless driving, the mototaxi lost control and crashed into a metal pole on the roadside.

To facilitate the recovery of the body by forensic personnel from the Quintana Roo State Attorney General’s Office (FGEQROO), transit officers temporarily closed the affected section of the Arco Vial.

This incident remains under investigation.
