Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A motorcyclist died Tuesday night after crashing into a concrete planter while attempting to beat a traffic light near the Centro Maya shopping center.
The accident occurred around 9:16 p.m. at the intersection of 41 Sur and Boulevard Playa del Carmen. Witnesses reported the rider accelerated to beat the changing light, lost control, and struck the concrete divider in the median.
The impact alerted people near the mall, who immediately called emergency services. Paramedics arrived minutes later but pronounced the young man dead at the scene after finding no vital signs.
Municipal traffic officers cordoned off the area to allow investigators to work and prevent further incidents. Traffic was partially disrupted during the investigation and body removal.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity.
