Cancún, Mexico — The Quintana Roo state leadership of Morena has announced it will formally oppose the potential incorporation of Lili Campos, former PAN mayor of Playa del Carmen, into the party’s ranks. Johana Acosta Conrado, the state party president, confirmed that if Campos publicly expresses interest in joining Morena, the State Executive Committee will immediately submit a rejection request to the newly formed Evaluation Commission.

A Firm Stance Against Opposition Figures

Acosta Conrado acknowledged that Campos has been seen attending internal Morena meetings, describing her as having "flirted" with the party. However, she emphasized that strong arguments would be presented to block Campos’s entry should she attempt to join officially.

“We have seen her close to some Morena meetings, that’s true,” Acosta Conrado stated. “But we will emphasize our rejection if she decides to publicly announce her incorporation into Morena.”

She added, “Of course, we will make our position clear and submit this profile to the Evaluation Commission for thorough analysis. We will provide the reasons why she should not belong to our movement.”

No Direct Contact, but Political Concerns

Acosta Conrado clarified that she has had no direct contact with Campos, whom she characterized as one of the last remaining figures of opposition in Quintana Roo.

“There has been no outreach from her. I have never seen her engage with the left. I must say she represented the last remnant of opposition, of PAN, of neoliberalism that once dominated Quintana Roo.”

The state party leader expressed hope that controversial figures with what she described as "questionable pasts" would not seek to join Morena.

“If we perceive that the inclusion of a public figure causes controversy, we will bring it to the attention of the Evaluation Commission so they can take necessary measures,” she concluded during an interview at a leadership training event in Cancún.

The statement underscores Morena’s efforts to maintain ideological cohesion as it consolidates power in the region.
