Molotov Cocktails Firebomb Taxi Union Offices in Puerto Aventuras

Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo — Attackers hurled Molotov cocktails into the administrative offices of the Puerto Aventuras taxi drivers’ union on Friday night, igniting a fire inside the building and causing material damage, according to accounts of the incident.

The attack unfolded around 11 p.m., when several people arrived at the property at the intersection of Avenida Álamo and Calle Cedro and threw the incendiary devices at the building.

Flames reached the interior of the offices and also damaged a private vehicle parked nearby.

Officers from the Public Security Department responded and requested help from firefighters, who brought the blaze under control before it spread to other areas. No injuries were reported, and preliminary assessments placed the damage to the union building and the vehicle.

Two Drivers Reportedly Abducted and Released

Accounts that circulated after the attack indicated that two taxi operators were abducted around the same time. One case allegedly occurred in the Los Sauces settlement, while the second was reported at another location in the municipality.

Hours later, both drivers were reportedly released in Playa del Carmen. No further details about the circumstances of their abductions or their release have been made public.

Investigation Underway

After extinguishing the fire, preventive police cordoned off the building to preserve the scene and notified the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE). Investigators later arrived to carry out inquiries and collect evidence linked to the attack.

So far, the leadership of the Puerto Aventuras taxi drivers’ union, the Public Security Department and the State Prosecutor’s Office have issued no official information about the attack, the possible abduction of the drivers or the identity of those responsible.

Authorities must determine whether the two incidents are connected and establish a motive for the attack on the union’s offices.
