MEXICO CITY — With the men’s national team’s 2026 World Cup run now over, attention is shifting to El Tri Femenil, which is preparing for one of its most important matches in years.
Mexico’s women’s national team will face Haiti in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, with the winner earning direct qualification to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The match is scheduled for November 28, 2026, according to ESPN’s match listing.
The stakes are unusually high. Concacaf’s 2026 W Championship will serve as the region’s qualifying tournament for both the 2027 Women’s World Cup and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The eight-team tournament includes the United States, Canada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Haiti, Jamaica, Mexico and Panama.
Under the tournament format, the four quarterfinal winners will qualify directly for the 2027 Women’s World Cup. Teams that lose in the quarterfinals will still have a chance to reach the intercontinental playoff route, but the clearest path is simple: win the quarterfinal and book a ticket to Brazil.
Mexico reached this stage after a strong qualifying campaign, capped by a 6-0 win over Puerto Rico in Toluca that secured its place in the Concacaf W Championship. The result was especially meaningful for a program trying to return to the Women’s World Cup after missing the 2019 and 2023 tournaments.
Haiti will not be an easy opponent. The Caribbean side also qualified for the Concacaf W Championship and has built a stronger international profile in recent years, including its appearance at the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The 2027 Women’s World Cup will be held in Brazil from June 24 to July 25, 2027, marking the first time the tournament will be hosted in South America.
For Mexico, the equation is clear: one match, one win, and El Tri Femenil returns to the world stage.
