Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Mayor Estefanía Mercado emphasized that the rehabilitation of sports facilities, such as the Skatepark at the Playa del Carmen Sports Complex, is a priority action of her administration to strengthen youth well-being, prevent risky behaviors, and promote healthy coexistence through sports.

“The rehabilitation of the Skatepark is not just an infrastructure project; it is a social investment that provides our youth with a safe, dignified, and inclusive space to develop, socialize, and build community, while also establishing itself as a breeding ground for champions,” stated the Mayor.

Estefanía Mercado highlighted that the Playa del Carmen Sports Complex, where the Polyforum, soccer fields that for the first time in history feature synthetic grass, and the construction of a dome over outdoor basketball courts have already been rehabilitated, represents a meeting point for children, youth, and families, and is part of a comprehensive strategy aimed at rebuilding the social fabric, using sports as an engine for social transformation and human development.

She assured that the City Council will oversee that the work is executed with quality, on time, and in proper form, ensuring that every invested resource translates into real benefits for the community. “Every peso allocated to the Skatepark is a direct bet on the health, discipline, and future of Playa del Carmen,” she emphasized.

The rehabilitation of the Skatepark, which will be inaugurated soon and is integrated into the Rehabilitation of the Polyforum Sports Complex project, includes specialized work such as layout and leveling with topographic equipment; demolition of small walls and removal of existing fences; construction of retaining walls and reinforced concrete footings; excavation and filling for the central track; perimeter skirting, fences, and access corridors; as well as the construction of a concrete track with polished finish of over 1,400 square meters.

Additionally, it includes the installation of stormwater infrastructure with channels, manholes, and concrete covers, caulking of cracks, rehabilitation of the riding surface, and preparation of the base for the application of paint with sealant, ensuring optimal safety and durability conditions.

With this project, it is estimated to directly benefit 19,200 residents, strengthening community cohesion and reaffirming the closeness between government and citizens.

Finally, Estefanía Mercado reiterated that her government will continue working steadily to consolidate dignified, safe, and accessible public spaces, inviting the community to make the Skatepark their own, care for it, and turn it into a symbol of pride, coexistence, and well-being for Playa del Carmen.
