Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — With the goal of revitalizing public spaces and establishing a new urban identity, Mayor Estefanía Mercado has announced the launch of a comprehensive program to rehabilitate 376 parks across the municipality. The initiative will begin with an initial phase targeting 36 parks in high-traffic neighborhoods.

A Transformation Beyond Maintenance

During a visit to the park in the 28 de Julio neighborhood, Mayor Mercado emphasized that the project extends beyond basic upkeep. "This is an integral transformation of the city’s image," she stated. "All parks and public spaces will feature the new 'Arena Playa' color scheme, reflecting our natural essence—free from political associations—and fostering a sense of community pride."

The rehabilitation efforts will include:

  • General cleaning and repainting
  • Restoration of landscaped areas
  • Removal of damaged playground equipment and debris
  • Strategic tree trimming to improve lighting and mitigate hurricane season risks

Three painting crews and two cleaning teams have been deployed for the first phase, with an estimated 37 business days required to complete work on the initial 36 parks.

Efficient Planning and Community Involvement

Julieta Martín, Municipal Secretary of Public Services, highlighted that the city maintains an updated inventory of all 376 parks, ensuring efficient and phased rehabilitation throughout the administration’s term.

"We urge all residents to take care of these spaces," Martín said. "These parks are being restored with dedication and effort—they deserve protection. We envision an orderly, clean, beautiful, and safe city that embodies the pride of living in Playa del Carmen."

Residents are invited to visit the first rehabilitated parks, where the new "Arena Playa" color scheme is already visible, symbolizing unity and renewal.
