Cancun, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa toured the construction site of the Kukulcan road distributor, a strategic federal project that is now nearly 30% complete and will improve access to Cancun International Airport, the Nichupte vehicular bridge, and the Hotel Zone.
The project, overseen by the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), represents a federal investment of 484 million pesos. Lezama thanked President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo for supporting infrastructure that addresses Cancun’s growth and improves residents’ quality of life.
Lezama said the distributor will ease traffic congestion at one of the city’s main entry points, reducing travel times for both residents and visitors.
Current work focuses on raising columns after foundation and footing preparation, along with underground infrastructure for water and drainage networks.
The Kukulcan road distributor will feature an overpass with two separate sections — one with two lanes in one direction and another with one lane in the opposite direction — plus local traffic lanes, bus stops, and pedestrian crossings to enhance safety.
Key benefits include reduced accident risk, greater capacity and efficiency for access to and from the Nichupte vehicular bridge, and improved response during environmental contingencies in the tourist zone.
