Cancún, Quintana Roo — A man was the victim of an attempted execution yesterday morning while walking near his home in the Tres Reyes neighborhood.
The attack prompted immediate mobilization of authorities from all three levels of government, as well as emergency services that confirmed the victim still had vital signs and was urgently transported to the general hospital.
Through the emergency number 911, it was reported that an armed assault had been perpetrated on 6 de Enero Street, near the telesecundaria. According to the report, two individuals on a motorcycle shot at the victim who was heading to his residence, which is why support from law enforcement and medical assistance was requested.
Around 11:30 a.m., personnel from the Security Complex (C-5) notified municipal police elements to go to the site to verify the facts. Moments later, it was indicated that the injured person was lying on the public road in a pool of blood.
Minutes later, personnel from the Secretariat of Citizen Security, the Secretariat of the Navy, and the Army arrived, establishing a security perimeter. Meanwhile, paramedics from the Rescue and Medical Emergencies Squad (ERUM) provided first aid to the patient before admitting him as an emergency to the “Dr. Jesús Kumate Rodríguez” General Hospital.
As a result of this incident, agents from the Ministerial Investigation Police mobilized to begin the corresponding inquiries into this attempted homicide. During the proceedings, they managed to interview neighbors in the area, who reiterated that the victim was walking on 6 de Enero Street in the aforementioned neighborhood at the time of the attack.
It was detailed that the young man was about to arrive at his home when two subjects of thin build and dark complexion approached him to shoot him point-blank directly. After the aggression, the hitmen fled along the same roadway on a motorcycle, apparently of the Italika brand, although no further specific details of the motor vehicle were specified.
At the crime scene, several spent shell casings were located and secured by Forensic Services personnel. These clues will be analyzed through the IBIS ballistic system as part of the investigations of this case, for which, so far, authorities have not revealed the motive that will guide the lines of investigation.
