Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man identified only by his alias “El Chupón” died on Sunday morning in a Playa del Carmen hospital after allegedly being tortured and abandoned inside his vehicle in the irregular settlement known as Inn House.
The incident was reported around 4:00 a.m. when residents of the area observed a car engulfed in flames on a dirt road and alerted emergency services. Upon approaching, they found the man with visible signs of violence and burns on various parts of his body, prompting them to request immediate assistance.
Security personnel and emergency responders mobilized to the scene and cordoned off the area while paramedics attended to the injured man and urgently transported him to a nearby hospital, where he received medical attention due to the severity of his wounds.
Despite the efforts of healthcare staff, around 9:00 a.m., the death of “El Chupón” was confirmed as a result of the multiple injuries he presented, stemming from the blows and burns he suffered before being found.
To date, the victim’s legal identity has not been officially confirmed by authorities, although the alias by which he was known in the community has circulated unofficially.
Personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) initiated an investigation file to clarify the circumstances of the violent event, determine the motive for the attack, and search for those responsible for this crime. The area remained guarded for several hours while forensic experts collected evidence to help advance the inquiries.
