Chetumal. A man was shot and killed this morning in the Kilómetro 5 neighborhood of the state capital, triggering a major police mobilization and partial road closures in the area.
The attack occurred on Aarón Merino Fernández Street, between Sacalaca and Bakalal, where residents reported hearing at least five gunshots. Minutes later, Municipal and State Police officers activated a red code and cordoned off the area.
Preliminary reports indicate the victim was a man identified as M. G., who died at the scene from gunshot wounds.
Forensic experts from the Southern District Vice Prosecutor’s Office are collecting evidence and processing the scene. So far, seven spent shell casings have been secured.
Due to the cordon, traffic remains affected, and authorities recommend using alternate routes while forensic work continues.
