Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man and a woman were detained on the shoreline of the Centro neighborhood beach during the early morning hours after being involved in a fight that escalated to physical and verbal aggression against Tourism Police officers, who responded to the scene after hearing cries for help.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. on Calle 8 at the federal maritime zone, when officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security were conducting a preventive patrol of the beaches. During the patrol, the officers heard a woman screaming that she was being beaten, indicating that a man was physically assaulting her and submerging her in the water.
Intervention and Apprehension of the Aggressor
Given the seriousness of the situation, the agents intervened immediately and proceeded to secure the alleged aggressor. The individual attempted to flee but was caught meters ahead and subdued in accordance with operational protocols.
Surprisingly, the woman, far from cooperating, began to assault the officers, demanding that they release the man, arguing that he was her romantic partner and that the authorities “had no business getting involved.” The hostile attitude complicated the police intervention and resulted in a second detention.
Both Under the Influence of Alcohol
After controlling the situation, the police confirmed that both individuals were under the influence of alcohol, which led to their detention and removal from the area to safeguard their integrity and that of others.
The authorities reiterated the call to report any act of violence, especially in public and tourist spaces, and reminded that timely intervention can prevent serious injuries or tragedies. The case was left at the disposal of the corresponding authority for the determination of responsibilities according to the law.
