Mexico City, Mexico — A security incident occurred at Mexico City International Airport (AICM) on Friday afternoon when a Magnicharters pilot locked himself in the cockpit of an aircraft with passengers on board, forcing the suspension of a flight bound for Cancún and activating emergency protocols.
According to preliminary reports, the pilot was notified of his dismissal while the aircraft was being prepared for takeoff. He refused to leave the cockpit and used the public address system to express his dissatisfaction, creating tension among the passengers already on board.
The action prevented the aircraft’s departure and led to the cancellation of the flight. Airport and security authorities intervened to control the situation and ensure passenger safety.
After several minutes of negotiation and the activation of corresponding protocols, the pilot was removed from the cockpit and detained by authorities. He was transferred to the Federal Civil Aviation Agency to determine his legal status and possible legal responsibilities.
The incident resulted in no injuries but caused alarm among passengers and delays in normal terminal operations. Videos and testimonies from affected users were shared on social media, highlighting the cancellation and lack of information during the initial moments.
As of press time, Magnicharters has not issued an official statement about the incident. Aeronautical authorities continue their investigation to determine whether there were violations of aviation security protocols and any associated labor responsibilities related to the event.
