IPAB to Pay CIBanco Deposits From Oct 13

Mexico City — The Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings (IPAB) announced that on October 10, 2025, the liquidation process began for CIBanco, S.A., a multiple banking institution. This action follows the revocation of its license due to alleged money laundering operations identified by the United States government, which also implicated Intercam Banco and Vector Casa de Bolsa.

Starting October 13, IPAB will begin payments of insured deposits to savers. To access the process, users must go to the official IPAB website: https://www.gob.mx/ipab.

Deposit Coverage

Deposits at CIBanco are protected by IPAB for up to 400 thousand Investment Units (UDIs) per person, equivalent to three million 424 thousand 262.40 pesos as of October 10, 2025. This guarantee applies only to products considered insured deposits, in accordance with the Bank Savings Protection Law (LPAB) and other current regulations.

Coverage Exclusions

IPAB does not guarantee deposits in the name of shareholders, members of the board of administration, officials from the first two hierarchical levels, general attorneys with administrative powers, or general managers of CIBanco, regardless of the deposited amount. However, these individuals retain their rights against the institution in liquidation.

Payment Requests

Users may submit a payment request if they do not receive the corresponding amount or if they are not satisfied with the payment received. The deadline to do so is one year from the start of the liquidation. Requests must be submitted directly at IPAB facilities.

Clarifications

You may submit a payment request if you do not receive payment for your guaranteed deposits; or if you receive the payment and disagree with the amount received. The deadline to submit a payment request is one year counted from the date CIBanco entered liquidation. This request must be submitted at the facilities of the Institute for the Protection of Bank Savings.

What Are Insured Deposits?

They are operations contemplated in Article 46, sections I and II, of the Law of Credit Institutions: bank deposits of money on demand, withdrawable on pre-established days; savings deposits; time deposits or those requiring prior notice; as well as loans and credit accepted by the credit institutions.

Value of the UDI

As of October 10, 2025, one Investment Unit is equivalent to 8.560656 pesos.
