Cancún, Quintana Roo — A heartbreaking scene unfolded when a distraught mother arrived at the site of a traffic accident and collapsed in grief at the feet of her deceased son. The victim, identified as Xchel Dali Cortés Olvera, died after losing control of his motorcycle on Bonampak Avenue in Cancún, near the Tec Milenio campus, shortly before 10 p.m.
Fatal Accident on Bonampak Avenue
Preliminary reports from Municipal Transit officials indicate that the accident occurred when the young man, allegedly traveling at high speed, hit a speed bump, causing him to lose control and crash violently. Paramedics responded immediately, but Cortés Olvera showed no signs of life upon their arrival.
The victim, a resident of the Alfredo V. Bonfil neighborhood, lay on the central median of Bonampak Avenue, covered with a white sheet while awaiting transfer to the Forensic Medical Service (Semefo).
Mother’s Desperate Arrival
As authorities prepared to move the body, a white pickup truck screeched to a halt, startling investigators, paramedics, and police officers. A woman, later confirmed to be the victim’s mother, rushed from the vehicle, shouting, “Let me out!”
Witnesses reported that the mother exited so abruptly that another vehicle was forced to brake suddenly, with onlookers urging her to be careful. Undeterred, she sprinted to the median and collapsed in tears beside her son’s body.
Police formed a perimeter and redirected traffic to prevent further risks to grieving family members. After several agonizing moments, officers and relatives managed to escort the mother away, allowing forensic personnel to proceed with the body’s removal.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
