Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge has ordered pretrial detention for five men arrested in Cancun on drug-related charges, the state prosecutor’s office announced.

The ruling came after the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Drug Dealing presented evidence against the suspects, identified as Alexis “N,” Danilo Emiliano “N,” Abel Ernesto “N,” Santiago Efraín “N,” and Reyes Iván “N.”

According to investigators, two of the men face charges of possession of marijuana with intent to supply, while the other three are charged with simple possession of the same drug.

The arrests took place in Cancun’s Supermanzana 223, where security personnel conducting a routine search found several packages containing what is believed to be marijuana. During the operation, authorities also seized firearms reserved for exclusive use by the Mexican Army, Navy, and Air Force. Officials said they are working to determine the origin of the weapons.

After reviewing the evidence, the judge determined there were sufficient grounds to proceed with the criminal case and imposed one year of pretrial detention, or until the legal proceedings conclude. Investigations into this case and other drug sales at the retail level are ongoing.
