Isla Mujeres Distributes Nearly 200 Blankets as Cold Front Hits

Municipal workers and officials distributing blankets to residents in Isla Mujeres

Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — Municipal authorities have distributed nearly 200 new blankets to elderly and vulnerable residents across Isla Mujeres as cold front 33 brings low temperatures to the region.

The distribution is part of the “Abrigando Corazones” (Warming Hearts) program, organized by the municipal government through the local DIF (System for Integral Family Development). The initiative aims to protect the health and well-being of vulnerable populations during the winter season.

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde accompanied DIF staff during a distribution in the La Gloria neighborhood on the island’s insular zone. She emphasized that protecting vulnerable residents is a priority for her administration.

“For our humanistic and supportive government, protecting the health of the most vulnerable people is a priority,” Gómez said.

The mayor noted that the program is part of broader social assistance measures implemented during winter, when low temperatures and strong winds are felt more intensely in remote neighborhoods and communities like Francisco May.

Distribution has occurred across the municipality, including the island zone, continental zone, and the community of Francisco May. Gómez stated that these deliveries will continue at various points throughout the municipality as part of a comprehensive social assistance strategy.
