Isla Mujeres, Q. Roo — Municipal President Atenea Gómez Ricalde participated in the 26th edition of the traditional maritime procession to Contoy, held in honor of the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre. The event served to reaffirm the importance of the religious and cultural traditions that provide identity and strengthen the unity of the island community.
"These traditions represent the faith, identity, and union of our families, and it is a privilege to be able to share them with my fisherman friends and with the island community," emphasized Atenea Gómez.
From the early morning, island families gathered at the Parish of the Immaculate Conception to begin the journey to the wooden fiscal pier. In an atmosphere of faith and devotion, more than 1,300 people departed for Contoy to experience a day of devotion, festivity, and tradition.
During the voyage to Contoy, the recitation of the rosary and religious songs were led by the parish choir. At the chapel on Contoy, the mass in honor of the Holy Patroness of Fishermen was officiated by Father Rafael González Guzmán.
Atenea Gómez highlighted that these traditions strengthen the identity of Isla Mujeres and also represent an opportunity to reinforce family coexistence, social unity, and pride in being islanders.
