Cancun, Quintana Roo — The International Association of Hotel Investors (Inverotel) announced plans to build 3,500 new hotel rooms in Quintana Roo over the next three years, backed by an investment of approximately $700 million.

Toni Chaves Palomo, recently appointed manager of the association, said the project includes 1,500 rooms in existing hotels and 2,000 rooms in new properties in Cancun and the mainland area of Isla Mujeres.

“Two more hotels are coming to Costa Mujeres, possibly one more in Cancun, and we are analyzing expansions of chains that already have hotels; we are talking about an additional 1,500 rooms to those that already exist,” Chaves explained.

Inverotel currently has $5 billion invested in Mexico, with the majority concentrated in Quintana Roo. Founded in 2007, the organization represents major Spanish hotel chains with significant presence in the Caribbean and Latin America, including Iberostar, Riu, Bahía Príncipe, Palladium, Catalonia, H10, HM Hotels, Princess, Sirenis, Sha Wellness, Senator, Insotel, El Fuerte, Excellence, Impressive, Tyche, Nyx, and Meliá.

The group operates 40,000 rooms in the Mexican Caribbean and another 10,000 on the Pacific coast. Worldwide, Inverotel manages 100,000 rooms across Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Cuba, the United States, Colombia, Brazil, Costa Rica, Panama, Aruba, and the Bahamas.

Chaves, who also leads the Riviera Maya Hotel Association, noted that unlike other industry groups, Inverotel represents hotel owners who own the properties, making the organization focused on sustainable growth of the destinations where they have interests.

He predicted that Quintana Roo will continue to lead in tourist arrivals not only in Mexico but in the entire Caribbean region, thanks to its sun, beach, and cultural offerings that attract both visitors and major capital.
