Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A worker died Friday afternoon after suffering an electric shock while installing internet service in the Pescadores 2 neighborhood, next to Alondras Avenue, according to initial reports.
The man was reportedly carrying out maneuvers to connect the service when he accidentally came into contact with high-voltage cables. The resulting shock caused fatal injuries, officials said.
The incident also knocked out electricity in the surrounding neighborhood as emergency crews responded and workers carried out repairs in the area.
Paramedics and emergency personnel arrived at the scene, but were unable to save the worker’s life. His death was confirmed at the site.
Authorities carried out the corresponding investigative procedures to determine the circumstances of the accident and to establish how the installation work was being performed at the moment of the discharge.
