Cancún, Quintana Roo — The "Love with Pride" campaign, organized by the Civil Registry Directorate and the Directorate of Attention to Sexual Diversity of the Benito Juárez municipality, concluded with notable participation: 22 individuals expressed interest in initiating the gender identity change process. This figure marks a significant increase compared to the 10 requests recorded by May.

Eduardo Kuyoc, head of the Civil Registry, confirmed that the applications received during the campaign will begin formal processing on June 16, with updated birth certificates scheduled for delivery by June 24. Applicants must be adults and present an updated birth certificate, official identification, and proof of address.

Cost and Record-Breaking Potential

The procedure includes a 100% discount on municipal fees, meaning applicants will only pay the state fee of 735 pesos. If all 22 requests are completed, 2025 will set a new record for the municipality, surpassing the 24 modifications recorded in 2023 and the 16 in 2024.

Once finalized, the previous identity is kept confidential, and the Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) is updated, allowing individuals to exercise their rights under their new identity in any institution.

The campaign is part of the municipality’s efforts to promote inclusion and respect for sexual diversity, particularly during LGBTQ+ Pride Month.
