Chetumal, Quintana Roo — With the premise that identity is our greatest strength and responding to the urgency of attending to those who have historically been marginalized from economic, political, and social development, the Institute for the Development of the Maya People and Indigenous Communities of the State of Quintana Roo (INMAYA) has deployed decisive actions for the dignification of the original peoples. During 2025, 673,755 pesos were invested in initiatives that transcend the economic to become tools for preserving cultural heritage, customs, and traditions, guaranteeing spaces that promote the development of arts and social benefit activities in the heart of the Maya zone.
These actions are framed within the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo promoted by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa, who has instructed working tirelessly to eradicate discrimination or social exclusion. Following this mandate, the general director of INMAYA, Enrique Chuc Cen, has led the deployment of these resources directly in the communities, ensuring that collective rights in the political, economic, and social spheres become a tangible reality for the existence and dignity of our Maya brothers.
Under this vision of social justice, 181,000 pesos were allocated for strengthening traditional celebrations and festivals, and 80,000 pesos for the maintenance of Ceremonial Centers; sacred venues that are the soul of our identity. At the same time, the Institute channeled 198,000 pesos in transportation support and over 100,000 pesos in medical, funeral, and food expenses, extending a helping hand to families in Felipe Carrillo Puerto, José María Morelos, and Lázaro Cárdenas in their moments of greatest vulnerability.
Likewise, linguistic richness is promoted beyond our borders. Through the free Maya language courses (basic level) that INMAYA offers online, national reach has been achieved, training 88 people interested in preserving and learning our mother tongue; an academic space where participation by 83% of women committed to ancestral knowledge also stands out. Similarly, through the Well-being Caravans, functional devices such as wheelchairs and canes were delivered, prioritizing the mobility and autonomy of elderly people.
It is worth noting that a large part of this investment, specifically 48,000 pesos allocated to resolve immediate needs, arises from direct dialogue without intermediaries in the Public Audiences with the Governor. There, the voices of communities like Tuzik, Kampocolché, and San Andrés were heard and attended to, reaffirming the commitment to work at ground level to settle the historical debt and guarantee that shared prosperity reaches every corner of the Maya zone.
