Crocodile Sighting Surge at PDC Beaches

Adrián Medina, head of the Federal Maritime Terrestrial Zone (Zofemat) in Solidaridad, has reported an increase in crocodile sightings on local beaches. Most of these reports come from beachgoers who have spotted the reptiles at Punta Esmeralda and 68th Street.

In the past two weeks, nine reports have been received, including two in the last week. Medina reassures the public that these crocodiles do not pose a threat. However, he advises people to avoid approaching the creatures and to report any sightings to the authorities immediately.

Crocodile sightings are more common on beaches that are further from the city and closer to mangrove areas. To date, there have been no reports of crocodile aggression in the coastal area of the municipality.

"These are animals in their natural habitat. They don't typically attack people," Medina said. "However, we urge caution and prompt reporting of any sightings to the authorities."
