Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Government of Isla Mujeres is in the final stages of preparation for the inauguration of an emblematic sculpture titled Mujer Isleña (Island Woman). The cultural event is scheduled for Thursday, August 14, at 5:30 p.m. at the popular photo stop on the Malecón Caribe, one of the island’s central gathering points.

A Tribute to Strength and Identity

Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde emphasized that the sculpture serves as a tribute to the resilience, courage, and identity of the women of Isla Mujeres, who have played a crucial role in the history and development of the community.

“The Mujer Isleña is a symbol of our culture, our roots, and the daily struggle of the many women who have shaped this community. This work will stand as a permanent reminder of their legacy,” the mayor stated during the announcement.

Integration into the Island’s Sculpture Collection

The new sculpture will join a collection of 25 artworks distributed across the island’s five existing sculptural “habitats.” Among these are representations of various marine species, including turtles, sharks, dolphins, manta rays, and lobsters, each reflecting the natural richness of Isla Mujeres’ environment.

With the installation of Mujer Isleña, the Municipal Government reaffirms its commitment to promoting art and culture while strengthening a sense of identity and belonging among the island’s residents. The sculpture aims not only to enhance the landscape of the Malecón Caribe but also to enrich the experience of the thousands of visitors who frequent this iconic public space.

A Public Celebration

The unveiling ceremony will be open to the public, inviting local families and tourists to participate in a celebration that honors the spirit and history of the island. Citizen participation is expected to play a key role in what promises to be a cultural milestone for the Isla Mujeres community.
