Holbox Island, Quintana Roo — Holbox Island is experiencing one of its best tourist moments of the year, registering an occupancy rate close to 90 percent, a figure that directly boosts the local economy and benefits dozens of families linked to maritime, commercial, and service activities.

Holbox Island Maintains Appeal Despite Weather Challenges

Juan Manuel Rico Santana, president of the tourist cooperative Pulperos del Caribe, explained that this uptick reflects a sustained recovery after some days of low visitor numbers caused by a cold front before Christmas, when the port remained closed to minor navigation for safety reasons.

During the temporary port closure, only the transportation services of the shipping companies Nueve Hermanos and Servicio Exprés operated.

Even so, the destination managed to maintain tourist flow thanks to the interest of national and international tourism, which continues to choose Holbox Island as one of the main attractions in northern Quintana Roo.

Tourism Boosts Fishing and Local Commerce

Rico Santana noted that, if weather conditions remain favorable, occupancy could reach its maximum during the weekend.

This represents a key incentive for fishermen and service providers who combine tourist activities with scale fishing.

A positive season not only benefits the island but also nearby communities that indirectly depend on tourism, consolidating Holbox as a regional engine.
