Cancún, Quintana Roo — One of three suspects detained in connection with the assassination of Mario Machuca, leader of the Revolutionary Confederation of Workers and Farmers (CROC) in Cancún, allegedly received 50,000 pesos for the killing, which was reportedly carried out on the third attempt.
Coordinated Arrests in Mexico City
The alleged perpetrators of the murder of Mario Machuca Sánchez, a former federal deputy and prominent labor leader, were apprehended in Mexico City following a joint operation between federal and state authorities. The suspects—identified as 21-year-old Ángel Yair “N,” 34-year-old Arnulfo “N” (alias “El Nunfo”), and 47-year-old Guillermo “N”—were located in the Moctezuma neighborhood of the Venustiano Carranza borough. Authorities seized nine bags of bulk marijuana, a cell phone, and an official ID during the arrest.
Payment and Failed Attempts
According to reports from Milenio Televisión, Ángel “N” was offered 50,000 pesos, a plane ticket to Cancún, and lodging expenses in exchange for carrying out Machuca’s execution. Upon arriving in Cancún, he allegedly coordinated with other accomplices to plan the attack.
The first two attempts failed for unspecified reasons, but the third attempt on August 4 proved successful. After the killing, Ángel “N” was reportedly assigned two additional murders but never received payment for the initial hit.
Execution Details
The crime occurred in the parking lot of a car dealership on Kabah Avenue in Cancún’s Supermanzana 42. Machuca was inside a 2024 Chevrolet Tahoe when two men on a motorcycle approached. One of the assailants disguised himself as a food delivery driver, carrying a backpack to avoid suspicion, and fired at least six shots.
Ongoing Investigation
The suspects remain in custody as authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the assassination and potential connections to organized crime.
