Gov. Lezama Grants 181 Real Estate Licenses in Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa emphasized the importance of professionalizing the real estate sector as she presented 181 licenses and accreditation certificates to property advisors during a ceremony in Cancún. The event underscored the state’s commitment to fostering trust, attracting investments, and ensuring orderly urban development.

Strengthening Trust in Real Estate

Lezama described the licenses as more than just "a piece of plastic," stating they symbolize legal certainty for investors and homeowners. "For me, it is important to deliver these certificates and licenses because it gives us peace of mind to know we have more and more professional real estate advisors," she said. "We will promote this so that those who truly want to invest their money will place it in the hands of someone who can genuinely help them."

The governor praised the advisors for their training and expertise, reaffirming her administration’s dedication to combating corruption, ensuring legal security, and maintaining regulated urban growth.

Regulatory Progress and Accessibility

José Alberto Alonso Ovando, head of the Secretariat of Territorial, Urban, and Sustainable Development (SEDETUS), explained that the initiative aligns with Quintana Roo’s Law on Real Estate Services. He highlighted it as part of a broader regulatory strategy under Governor Lezama’s New Agreement for Wellbeing and Development, aimed at boosting public confidence and investment.

Since September 2022, SEDETUS has issued over 1,500 registrations to real estate professionals, while more than 4,000 individuals have received training in collaboration with the State Real Estate Council. The agency has also reduced registration fees, making the process more affordable and transparent for consultants.

"This step represents a concrete action to shield the sector from malpractice, promote legality, and ensure that those engaged in real estate activities are properly trained and certified," Alonso Ovando stated.

The event reinforced the state’s efforts to professionalize the industry while reinforcing legal safeguards for investors and residents alike.
