Gender Identity Campaign in Benito Juárez Concludes With 45 Applications

Officials at a gender identity campaign event in Cancún, Quintana Roo

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The gender identity change campaign in the municipality of Benito Juárez concluded with 45 confirmed applications, the Civil Registry Office announced. New birth certificates will be delivered on June 26.

Noamhy Hermida, head of the Sexual Diversity Office, said participation in this edition was lower than in previous campaigns, but noted an increase in interest from young people aged 16 to 17 who sought information about the process.

Under current regulations, only adults can complete the procedure. Minors receive guidance and are invited to begin the process once they turn 18, Hermida explained.

Applications include official documents such as an updated birth certificate, proof of address, and a valid voter ID. These are sent to the State Civil Registry for validation and resolution.

Hermida said institutional support has helped streamline document processing and ensure applicants receive assistance at every stage.

The campaign represents progress in recognizing gender identity and expanding access to civil rights, while strengthening services for the municipality’s diverse population, she added.

Beneficiaries will receive their new birth certificates on June 26, concluding the administrative process for this edition.
