Gastronomy Leads as Most In-Demand Program at UT Cancun

University campus building at UT Cancun

Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Technological University (UT) of Cancun has nearly filled all available spots for the upcoming academic cycle, with Gastronomy emerging as the most sought-after program, according to rector Enrique Baños.

Following an early enrollment strategy launched in January, the university has seen a steady flow of applicants. Baños noted that the new direct enrollment process — which eliminates entrance exams and accepts students who meet documentation requirements — has contributed to the success.

Gastronomy leads demand with 98% of its spaces occupied, followed by Tourism, Software Engineering, and Accounting. To accommodate the high interest, the university has expanded its hybrid modality for Associate Degree programs, allowing students to study online during the week and attend in-person classes only one day per week.

UT Cancun offers 179 educational programs system-wide, but its local campus selects programs based on feasibility studies and ties to the local economy. Baños also announced plans for future growth, including a new master’s degree in science teaching aimed at primary and secondary school teachers to strengthen regional education.
